You didn't point out shortcomings of the Z. You pointed out the fact that your personal expectatons happen to exceed the reality of the car's design.
You were apparently anticipating an exceptionally fast, lightweight, lithe sports car with a minivan-like interior. Instead, you drove a normally aspirated 300zx ...a heavy 8-year old GT car with 222HP and a compact interior. It's not a matter of the car being less than delicious, it's a case of being let down because your expectations were set too high. I don't know if this was the result of too much anticipation on your part or a side effect of the media portrayal of the car, but you were obviously expecting too much. Keep in mind that a vast majority of the reviews done on this car were done on the twin turbo. If you expect twin turbo performance and handling from a stock NA, than you are in for a big disappointment. I think that's what the guys here are objecting to.
Your response could be likened to that of most people who test drive the Porsche Boxster. Most people hear the name "Porsche" and expect a rocket with wheels. The Boxster just doesn't have that. Aesthetically it looks good, but when you slam the gas pedal down, it just kinda creeps forward. When people complain about that car, I just laugh ... the car is great for what it is. It's just not an ultra-fast sports car and shouldn't be judged as such. Okay, I'll shut up now. :)
